Whole Grain Berry Filled Oat Bars {Homemade Breakfast Bars}
Serves: 16
  • 1.5 cups whole grain, wheat flour
  • 1.5 cups old-fashioned oats
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1.5 sticks unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • ¾ cup fruit preserves
  • parchment paper
  • 9 X 13 baking dish
  • spatula
  1. Preheat your oven to 350.
  2. In the food processor bowl, combine the whole grain wheat flour, old-fashioned oats, brown sugar and salt.
  3. Quick blend for 20-30 seconds.
  4. Take the sticks of butter and slice them into smaller pieces.
  5. Add them to the food processor along with the water.
  6. Mix until the dough sticks together. Test by pushing together to see if it holds.
  7. Grease a 9 X13 dish and then line it with parchment paper.
  8. Grease the parchment paper. (Trust me on these)
  9. Divide your oat and flour dough mixture in half.
  10. Put one half in the bottom of the cake pan and flatten it out as evenly as possible.
  11. A spatula works really well with this.
  12. Spread the preserves on top of the dough, spreading evenly.
  13. Sprinkle the remaining dough on top of preserves and gently press down using the spatula.
  14. Bake for 45 minutes, or until oat mixture becomes a nice golden brown.
  15. Allow pan to cool thoroughly.
  16. Cut bars into pieces about 1.5 X 4in.
  17. Bars can be stored at room temperature for 3-5 days if sealed well or in the refrigerator for 7-10 days.
