Creamy avocado dip made with herbs, spices and dairy free cream cheese. This is a perfect avocado dip for nachos or homemade buckwheat crackers.
I’ve already shared with you my simple avocado dip before, so this type I wanted to made the creamy version of this recipe. I’ve used plant based & dairy free cream cheese in this recipe, so it’s suitable for vegan diets, but you can use regular cream cheese or yoghurt and it will work fine too.
Making vegan avocado dip is very easy – just mash the avocado first and add the rest of the ingredients and mix until nice and smooth. Blending everything in a food processor is a bonus, but you certainly don’t need it.
Serve with tortila chips, simple tortilla wraps, meat or cheese or anything else you want to dip it!

My tips on making the perfect vegan avocado dip
- Make sure your avocados are ripened properly before you use them
- To get light creamy texture, use a food blender/processor or a handheld blender stick
- Taste the avocado dip before you take it out of the food processor and adjust the flavour to your taste (if it’s bland it needs more lemon juice and salt)
- Use it on the same day to prevent the avocado dip going brown
Ingredients
Avocado
Your avocado needs to be perfectly ripened. This means that the avocado should be soft (but not brown or blotchy inside) and the avocado flesh should just come off easily when you scope it out.
If your avocado is not ripen properly, don’t use it as won’t be able to achieve that intense avocado flavour – your guacamole could taste like a watery cucumber.
Herbs
- fresh coriander (finelly chopped) ciliantro
- fresh parsley
- garlic clove
- chives (finelly chopped)
Cream Cheese
To make sure that this recipe stays dairy free and suitable for vegan diets, please use plant based cream cheese. If you can’t get hold of vegan cream cheese, you can also use plant based yoghurt, tahini or even a plant based milk. If you are using runnier ingredient (such as milk instead of cream cheese), use about half of the quantity in the recipe and only add more if the dip looks too thick.
This recipe will work perfectly with regular cream cheese, yoghurt or milk.
Spices & Flavourings
- 1/3 cup cream cheese (vegan & dairy free) or regular cream cheese, yoghurt or tahini
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice or more to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon fine salt or to taste
- pepper (ground) to taste
Other ingredients you can add to your avocado dip
You probably don’t want to add all of these in, just choose a combination of 2-3 ingredients that works for you.
- Lemon Juice or Lemon Zest (instead of lime)
- Chopped Onion
- Chopped tomato
- Hot Sauce
- Jalapenos
- Scallions
- Cilantro
- Chillies
- Ground Cumin Seeds
How to make vegan avocado dip recipe
- Cut the avocados and remove the pith. Peel or remove the avocado flesh and scope it to a food blender or a bowl.
- If using a food blender, add all the ingredients in at the same time and blend for few minutes until it’s light and smooth. If you want to keep the corriander (ciliantro)and chives in slightly large pieces, don’t add them in now and just add them at the end, when you’ve finished blending the avocado dip.
- Taste the avocado dip and adjust the flavour to your taste with more lemon juice, herbs or peper or salt.
- Serve on the same day with nachos, crackers or chips.
